Last night, Thursday, August 2, 2018 was a grand celebration at Holiday Inn Country Club Plaza, 45th & Main, as we celebrated the formation of a new chapter in ABWA (American Business Women Association). The theme was 'Achieving Excellence Through the Refracting Light of Diversity' and the speaker was Christal Watson, Deputy Chief of Staff in the office of the Mayor Unified Government Kansas City, Kansas - Wyandotte County.

Ms. Watson challenged the audience and expounded upon the meaning of refracting light "broken up to reflect a whole new world". She challenged us 'to allow ourselves to be vulnerable' and 'step out of our comfort zones'.

At the conclusion she provided applicable tips to achieve excellence through the refracting light of diversity through an acrostic: S.M.I.L.E.

S-show up to the meetings; conferences; and workshops M-make at least three connections; approach others I-Introduce yourself L-Listen for how you can help someone and then follow through on that promise E-Enthusiasm; excitement; and energy goes a long way

Special guest Angela Zuba, Chapter Adviser, and Cheryl Scott, District III Vice-President were present for the inaugural kickoff.

It was a grand celebration and when the invitation to join ABWA went forth, 13 new members came forth.

Be sure to join us for the next chapter meeting on Thursday, August 23, 2018. See the flyer for more information.
