Congratulations to RTEN's Scholarship Recipient
RTEN is proud to announce that Tahnya Ballard is the recipient of its 2015 Impact Scholarship. She was selected from area applicants by the Board of Trustees of ABWA. At RTEN's July 2015 membership meeting, Tahnya shared her career goals and sincerely thanked RTEN members for a scholarship that will help her focus on the demands of nursing school.
After working for more than 20 years as an attorney, Tahnya began on a new career path in January 2014 when she enrolled at Western Nevada College (WNC) to prepare to become a registered nurse. Her goal is to practice nursing for seven to 10 years, then transition into a med-legal position to engage in nurse advocacy and/or patient advocacy. After practicing in Northern Nevada and becoming proficient in the field, she wants to perform nursing in underdeveloped countries, particularly eastern and southeastern Asia.
By the time Tahnya began the fall 2015 nursing program at WNC, she had completed nearly all of the prerequisite classes and was anxious to become a WNC nursing program graduate with an Associate of Applied Science degree. Her academic achievements to date at WNC include a GPA of 3.91 and she has been invited to become a member of Phi Theta Kappa, recognized as the official honor society for community colleges by the American Association of Community Colleges.
RTEN wishes Tahnya great success and is pleased to help her embark on her life goal -- to travel to locations abroad. Tahyna said, "My skills as a nurse will allow me to do this, as nurses are needed wherever there are people with medical concerns. The human body is the same, the world over, unlike law which is practiced differently from place to place."
