Be the Heroine of Your Life

ABWA’s Mission Statement

The mission of the American Business Women’s Association is to bring together business women of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition.

About Us

At a time when it was socially unacceptable for women to pursue a full-time career, have a girls’ night out, or even join a women’s association; four individuals from Kansas City; Shirley Cupp, Irma Beisel, Frances Stuckey and Mr. Hilary Bufton Jr. , founded the American Business Women’s Association. Breaking barriers for women and on behalf of women is nothing new in ABWA.  We’ve been doing so since 1949.

Lifelong Learning

ABWA is committed to creating accessible, affordable and innovative learning opportunities that will prepare you to respond to the challenges and opportunities you experience at any given moment.  As a National member, you can choose from a diverse collection of online courses in ABWA’s Apex Campus.   We welcome learners of all ages, educational backgrounds and career paths who are motivated to chart their learning journey.

Our Members Say it Best…

Being part of ABWA changed my life in ways I had not expected.  At work, I have been assigned challenging projects and could be counted on to give 110%.  Yet, I felt that I was not viewed as a leader in my company…in fact, I was often asked to train new employees who were later promoted.

My goal in joining ABWA was to take advantage of the amazing on-line training and learn from accomplished speakers and business experts in order to build a better resume.  It did not take me long to realize that being an effective leader requires education, networking and the willingness to step outside your comfort zone.  ABWA has been the “place to be” for learning, taking risks and for building lifelong relationships!  Vanessa Willis,  Past National President
